Theatre Arts Production & Design- Intro to Technical Theatre Instructor Pool-Part-Time

Part-time, temporary faculty position in the Theatre Arts department at Fullerton College. Assignments are on an as-needed basis for teaching THEA 141 Introduction to Technical Theatre.

About the Role

Fullerton College seeks an instructor to teach Introduction to Technical Theatre, a course with 3 lecture units and 3 lab units. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 11:10 AM during the Spring and Fall semesters.

Responsibilities

• Teach THEA 141 Introduction to Technical Theatre using a lecture/laboratory format combined with project-based learning.
• Cover a broad range of technical theatre disciplines, including:
  • Theatre history
  • The design process
  • Scenic design and stagecraft
  • Scenic construction and painting
  • Prop design and construction
  • Lighting design, production, and electricity
  • Costume design and construction
  • Makeup design
  • Audio design, production, and reinforcement
• Adapt instructional methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
• Prepare students for real-world careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community leaders on programs and initiatives supporting historically underrepresented students.
• Utilize Learning Management System (LMS) tools, such as Canvas, for course delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and two years of professional experience, or
• Associate degree in any discipline and six years of professional experience, or
• Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area, or
• Equivalent qualifications as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

All degrees must be from accredited postsecondary institutions. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency. Evidence of degree conferred must be printed on a legible transcript.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
• Proficiency in both the theory and practical application of traditional and contemporary technical theatre principles.
• Extensive hands-on experience as a theatrical technician and stagehand in theme parks and entertainment venues.
• Experience teaching technical theatre courses, particularly introductory classes, with innovative practices supporting success and retention of women, students of color, and students with disabilities.
• Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders on programs designed to assist historically underrepresented students.
• LMS experience/training (e.g., Canvas).

Pay

• Lecture unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per unit
• Lab parity unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per unit
• Lab unit rate: $1,258.16 – $1,380.60 per unit
