Theatre Arts Production & Design- Stagecraft Instructor Pool-Part-Time

Part-time, temporary faculty position in the Theatre Arts department at Fullerton College. Assignments are on an as-needed basis and may include teaching Stagecraft courses during the Spring and Fall semesters.

This role involves teaching THEA 143 Stagecraft, a course with 3 lecture and 3 lab units, held Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:25 AM to 1:35 PM.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive instruction in scenic design and construction disciplines, including:
  • Theatrical safety
  • Theatre architecture
  • Hardware and fastening systems
  • Scenic materials
  • Scenery construction: flats, platforms, and step units
  • Scenery movement: decks, wagons, turntables, and slipstages
  • Structural design and building codes
  • Rigging systems: static and dynamic
  • Rope work: knots and splicing techniques
  • Scenic finishes and surface treatments
• Employ a dynamic lecture/laboratory format integrated with project-based learning.
• Adapt instructional methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community leaders on initiatives supporting historically underrepresented students.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and two years of professional experience, or
• Associate degree in any discipline and six years of professional experience, or
• Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
• All degrees must be from accredited postsecondary institutions; foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications

• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
• Expertise in both theoretical and practical applications of traditional and contemporary stagecraft principles.
• Background in theatrical video and projections work at a theme park or entertainment venue.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas).
• Innovative teaching practices supporting success and retention of women, students of color, and students with disabilities.
• Experience teaching technical theatre courses, particularly introductory classes.

Pay

• Lecture unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85
• Lab parity unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85
• Lab unit rate: $1,258.16 – $1,380.60
