TITLE

The Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa (GWPEA), whose Secretariat is hosted by the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) in Entebbe, is implementing the African Union's Action Plan on Climate Change (AU-AP) through the Multi-Country Readiness Program in Burundi. This initiative is part of a broader continental effort to strengthen climate resilience in the water sector. GWPEA's role includes providing technical support, mobilizing resources, and coordinating stakeholder engagement to ensure that Burundi's National Investment Program aligns with AU strategic priorities and meets the requirements of climate finance mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

About the role

To conduct a mission to develop concept notes for investment projects in Burundi for submission to the Green Climate Fund.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a mission to assess the readiness of potential investment projects in Burundi that align with the Green Climate Fund’s criteria and priorities.
  • Develop detailed concept notes for these projects, ensuring they are technically sound and financially viable.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector entities to gather necessary information and feedback.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and recommendations for project development.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in environmental science, engineering, economics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in climate change adaptation, sustainable development, or related fields.
  • Experience in preparing concept notes and proposals for international funding bodies like the Green Climate Fund.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Fluency in English and French.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of international climate finance mechanisms and their application in developing countries.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
