About the role

The Terminal Manager supervises all departmental personnel and is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the daily gate and terminal cargo-handling operations and associated administrative functions to meet customer standards and maximize profits.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate personnel to ensure work aligns with organizational requirements.
  • Conduct employee training on hazardous material handling, orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
  • Participate in union contract negotiations and grievance settlements.
  • Implement schedule and policy changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Monitor operations for compliance with administrative policies, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities through safety audits, meetings, and individual staff engagement.
  • Monitor spending to ensure expenses align with approved budgets.
  • Direct staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Coordinate safety, operational, and equipment support with other managers.
  • Investigate accidents to determine causes and improve safety procedures.
  • Analyze financial data to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Participate in hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations of staff.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering supplies, maintaining organization, waybill loading, cost analysis, and projections.
  • Maintain company values, policies, and procedures to fulfill the mission and foster productive customer and vendor relationships.
  • Complete special tasks as requested by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing a related union labor workforce.
  • Valid CPR certificate, driver’s license, and TWIC card.
  • Knowledge of terminal and warehouse operations from vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar experience.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of stowage and stability strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of local unions preferred.
  • Must observe all safety and health requirements for the terminal environment.
  • Working knowledge of email, scheduling, and Microsoft systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversees Office Manager, Administrative Assistants, Operations Labor Managers, and Warehouse personnel.

Work Environment

  • Primarily performed in a professional office environment.
  • May require travel throughout the terminal.
  • Occasional noise levels; potential exposure to hazardous conditions for those unable to see or hear fast-moving equipment.
