Tenure-Track Professor (Associate or Full)

Department of Community and Global Health at the Indiana University Indianapolis (IUI) Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor. This 12-month appointment (expected start date on or around July 1, 2026) emphasizes excellence in research, teaching, and service with a strong commitment to advancing local and/or global public health.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be a seasoned researcher, scholarly leader, and experienced mentor with a strong history of external funding. The position requires on-site presence in Indianapolis consistent with school and campus expectations. The faculty member will establish and maintain local and/or global strategic partnerships and contribute to building the department’s research and educational capacity.

Key Departmental Assets

• Diabetes Impact Project-Indianapolis Neighborhoods (DIP-IN): $12 million, eight-year community-based initiative in partnership with Eli Lilly and Company.
• IU Indianapolis ECHO Center: Nationally recognized hub for technology-enabled learning reaching nearly 9,000 participants across 89 counties and 46 states.
• Global Health Partnerships: Active collaborations with Jomo Kenyatta University (Kenya), Amrita University (India), AMPATH (Kenya, México, Nepal), and IU Center for Global Health.

In addition to Community and Global Health, the Fairbanks School provides multidisciplinary collaboration opportunities across departments in Health Policy and Management, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics and Health Data Science, creating a rich environment for research, teaching, and service.

Responsibilities

Research and Scholarly Excellence

• Establish and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program from federal agencies (NIH, NSF, CDC), foundations, industry, or other sources.
• Publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Mentor junior faculty and graduate students.
• Build upon and expand the department’s existing research infrastructure and partnerships.

We seek candidates with demonstrated research expertise in areas such as:

• Social determinants of health and health disparities;
• Implementation science and program evaluation;
• Prevention and management of chronic diseases;
• Social/behavioral sciences.

Preference for candidates with established community partnerships and applied experience within the United States and/or internationally.

Teaching and Mentorship

• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs, particularly the MPH program, MS in Global Health and Sustainable Development, and/or DrPH in Global Health Leadership.
• Mentor and advise doctoral students, serve on doctoral committees, and develop innovative curricula reflecting contemporary public health challenges.
• Demonstrate excellence in both in-person and online/asynchronous teaching.

Leadership and Service

• Contribute to departmental strategic planning and program development.
• Serve on department, school, and university committees.
• Build and maintain external partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, NGOs, and/or international organizations.
• Mentor junior faculty in research and career development.

Qualifications

Required

• Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD, or equivalent) in public health, social sciences, behavioral sciences, health sciences, or closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity with peer-reviewed publications appropriate to mid-career or senior level.
• Proven success in securing and managing extramural research funding as principal investigator.
• Active participation in national organizations and leadership activities.
• Excellence in teaching and mentoring at the graduate level.
• Strong mentorship record with early career faculty.
• Commitment to fostering inclusive learning and research environments and addressing health disparities.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities, stakeholders, and interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred

• Experience with online and hybrid teaching modalities.
• Doctoral-level student advising and doctoral committee service.
• Curriculum development and academic program leadership experience.
• Bilingual or multilingual capabilities.
• National or international recognition in field of expertise.
