About the role

The School of Technology for Public Health (STPH) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking applicants at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor on the Tenure Track in thematic areas of mental health, substance use, women’s health, children’s health, cardiometabolic disorders, infectious diseases, injury prevention, and indigenous health.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a program of high-impact research as Principal Investigator (PI) and solicit extramural federal/non-federal funding to support research projects.
  • Engage as a collaborative team scientist and support foundational/applied research in technology development to address public health challenges.
  • Publish regularly in high-impact journals, and present research at regional, national, and international scientific conferences.
  • Provide high-quality teaching and mentorship experiences at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Serve on school- and university-wide committees, and support community events.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, MD/PhD, MD/DrPH, MD/JD, or equivalent) in public health, biostatistics, health policy, epidemiology, social and behavioral sciences, environmental health, health services research, computer science, information science, design, human-computer interaction, systems engineering, health informatics or other related field from an accredited university by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and successful mentoring of public health students at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
  • Appropriate to the faculty rank, evidence of a successful history of obtaining extramural funding from federal and non-federal sources.
  • Appropriate to the faculty rank, evidence of publications demonstrating scholarly impact, appearing in respected peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

  • For Assistant Professor: Evidence of grant funding and/or scholarship through potential for securing extramurally funded research in the thematic areas of mental health, substance abuse, women’s health, children’s health, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, injury prevention, and indigenous health.
  • Peer-reviewed, and high-quality publications in the thematic focus areas outlined above.
  • A research agenda that integrates technology with public health.
  • Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate or graduate courses in public health domains or public health technologies.
  • Demonstrated success in promoting student retention and/or graduation.
  • Evidence of successful mentoring of undergraduate and/or graduate students in research and publishing.
  • Evidence of active involvement in college, community, and/or professional service commensurate with the rank of Assistant professor.
  • For Associate/Full Professor: An established program of research as evidenced by sustained extramurally funded research sufficient to support graduate students in the thematic focus areas of mental health, substance abuse, women’s health, children’s health, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, injury prevention, and indigenous health.
  • Peer-reviewed and high-quality publications/dissemination activities in the thematic focus areas outlined above.
  • National/international leadership and visibility in the thematic focus areas of mental health, substance abuse, women’s health, children’s health, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, injury prevention, and indigenous health.
  • Sustained excellence in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in public health domains or public health technologies.
  • Evidence of successful mentoring of undergraduate and/or graduate students in the health fields, particularly public health, in research and publishing.
  • Demonstrated success in promoting student retention and/or graduation.
  • Evidence of active involvement in college, university, community, and/or professional service commensurate with the rank of Associate / Full professor.

Skills

  • Strong research background in the thematic areas of mental health, substance use, women’s health, children’s health, cardiometabolic disorders, infectious diseases, injury prevention, and indigenous health.
  • Experience in technology development and integration with public health.
  • Excellent teaching skills and ability to mentor students.
  • Ability to secure extramural funding.
  • Leadership and visibility in the thematic focus areas.
