About the role
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a tenure-system faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will lead an independent and world-class research program in Condensed Matter Theory.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the potential to lead an independent and world-class research program in the broad field of Condensed Matter Theory.
- Topics of interest include topological and quantum materials, quantum dynamics and coherent control, solid-state-based quantum information, light-induced phase transitions, non-equilibrium many-body physics and statistical mechanics, as well as optical and electronic properties of materials.
Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. in physics or closely related areas.
- Build and maintain a sustainable, equitable, and diverse research environment.
- Made significant scholarly contributions.
- Be effective as teachers and mentors.
- Engage in institutional and professional service.
Qualifications
- Strong research record in Condensed Matter Theory.
- Excellent teaching and mentoring skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within the department and across campus.
Skills
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: topological and quantum materials, quantum dynamics and coherent control, solid-state-based quantum information, light-induced phase transitions, non-equilibrium many-body physics and statistical mechanics, optical and electronic properties of materials.
