About the role
The Temporary Property Security (Residence Halls) unit operates within the Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety. This unit is responsible for providing security support to the residence halls.
Responsibilities
- Patrol the interior and exterior of residence hall via foot.
- Guard property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitor assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognize and report unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations.
- Operate and maintain security enforcement equipment; and maintain related records and security reports.
- Check student identification cards (IDs) when necessary.
- Attend weekly residence hall staff meetings and participate in designated staff training activities as required by the Office of Residence Life and the Public Safety Department.
Requirements
- Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- A high school diploma or equivalency.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of local law enforcement experience.
Skills
- Understands security, traffic, and parking enforcement practices.
- Knowledge and skill in basic first aid.
- Displays organizational awareness and working knowledge of the infrastructure of the assigned area.
- Proficiency in using a variety of security enforcement equipment, which may include gates, radios, computers, and other electronic devices.

Schedule
Primarily on weekends, 16-64 hours per month (subject to change based on business needs).
