Temporary - Security Guard (Pool)

Position Summary

The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. The TBR system includes 13 community colleges and 27 colleges of applied technology, providing programs to students across the state, country and world.

Availability/Closing Date

This posting is not a guarantee of an open position. Applications for temporary pool positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed by the department when openings become available. Postings close annually on October 31st. Interested applicants who wish to maintain an active application within the system must re-apply each year.

Essential Job Functions/Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrols campus by foot, bicycle or motor vehicle.
• Identifies and reports suspected crimes, accidents or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
• Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probable cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required.
• Provides security for special events.
• Writes citations for parking violations.
• Provides direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff and students in unusual or emergency situations.
• Participates in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers.
• Maintains classrooms, offices and buildings for safety and/or maintenance concerns.
• Maintains department records and prepares reports.
• May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.

Required Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED
• A Valid Driver’s License

Prior Experience

• Prior security or law enforcement experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
• Demonstrated self-restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Ability to occasionally travel throughout the service area as needed.

Rate of Pay

$18.00 per hour

Work Hours

Up to 28 hours per week. Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need.
