Union Level – Department of Public Safety – Stockton campus. Temporary employee pool; part-time, up to 12 months. Work schedule varies as needed for events, primarily nights and weekends.
About the role
The Event Security Officer supports the University on foot patrol or in a University cart, ensuring safety and security during campus events and as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Perform security checks and crime prevention activities.
- Control and monitor traffic and people flow on campus during events.
- Provide information and direction to event guests and visitors.
- Advise police officers when a crime or violation of University rules occurs.
- Conduct perimeter checks for lighting, open doors/windows, and potential hazards.
- Prepare reports as assigned or necessary.
- Assist in community relations and crime prevention activities.
- Participate in public relations programs to promote police-community relations and crime prevention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One (1) month of experience in a customer service-based setting.
- Valid driver’s license; must meet University’s fleet rules to drive for University business.

- Exceptional customer service skills.
- At least one (1) month of infraction-free driving record.
- Ability to interact well with the public and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
- Basic computer skills with a Windows operating system.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including ability to interact with diverse groups.
- Flexibility and calmness under stressful conditions.
- Ability to assimilate and understand information quickly and communicate it accurately.
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions and use sound judgment in prioritizing tasks.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn University and departmental policies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to use or learn to use a two-way radio, even under stressful conditions.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn the University of the Pacific campus.
- Experience and sensitivity working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into work.
Physical Requirements
- Duties performed in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to transition quickly from a relaxed state to a highly stressful situation.
- Frequent use of phones and computers.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and grasping.
- Schedule varies; requires evening and weekend hours.
Pay
$18.00 per hour.
