About the role

This posting is for both LEAD and GENERAL Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator positions. In supplemental questions, please specify which position you are applying for.

Responsibilities

  • Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols.
    • Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, focusing on invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
    • Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species by distributing printed materials to visitors.
    • Work independently or in pairs to conduct inspections.
  • For LEAD Inspector:
    • Lead boat inspector responsibilities, including providing on-the-job training to inspection staff.
    • Create and manage schedules for inspection shifts.
    • Collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll purposes.
    • Resolve challenges with staff and customers, and recommend hiring/firing decisions to the area work lead.
    • Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols through monthly quality control assessments.
    • Maintain inventory of required supplies and perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination units.
    • Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer service experience working with the public desired.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

Basic Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age or older.
  • Current and valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

  • Any worker expected to drive a State-owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license.
