TEMPORARY - LAN/WAN Support Specialist I

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to the Local Area Network (LAN).

Responsibilities

• Assist Borough employees with data processing inquiries.
• Assist Borough employees with computer diagnostics, problem investigation, and technical support.
• Maintain inventory for LAN/WAN supplies.
• Perform system backup operations.
• Schedule and perform basic repairs to computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
• Referral of major hardware or software problems to engineers or technicians.
• Document daily data communication transactions, problems, and remedial actions.
• Travel to outlying villages as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 12 years of education and related work experience.
• Two years of experience in computer-based applications (Microsoft, etc).
• One year of experience in a customer service environment.
• Ability to pass Security Clearance with the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) within 60 days of hire.
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of Information Services processes.
• Data processing experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Skills

• Knowledge of commonly used Information Services concepts, practices, and procedures.
