About the role

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is part of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). ITS supports the technology needs of both agencies, creating and enhancing their technology infrastructure and computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the installation of Local Area Network (LAN) configurations including the Network interface configuration, the Workstation configuration and installation of the Windows NT server configuration.
  • Cook up, plan, document and evaluate the installation, customization, testing and implementation of cross platform connectivity for HRA's Enterprise-wide Local Area Network computer complexes and other Agency's local area networks, mini-computer networks and mainframes.
  • Provide technical assistance to customer area staff relaying technical information on the capabilities and limitations of LAN hardware/software. Assist the Enterprise LAN Specialist in developing highly complex technical recommendations regarding networks strategic planning, consolidation, system conversions and network acquisition needs. Ensure compatibility of Microsoft Windows with complex multiple networks through software acquisitions and upgrade.
  • Instruct or demonstrate to associate staff members and customers, the proper, efficient usage and/or installation of highly complex network operating systems or related program product software.

Requirements

The position requires a baccalaureate degree with 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and 2 years of satisfactory full-time software experience, or a four-year high school diploma with 6 years of full-time satisfactory software experience, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the above qualifications.

To be eligible for Assignment Level IV, candidates must have one year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, data communications systems, capacity planning, and/or on-line applications programming.

Preferred Skills

  • Manage and support Windows Server environments (on-prem & Azure) including patching, monitoring, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, and file/print services.
  • Administer Active Directory domains, hybrid AD/Entra ID integrations, and Azure resources (VMs, networking, storage, governance).
  • Hands-on Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
  • Experience with Exchange Online & on-prem Exchange in hybrid deployments.
  • Familiarity with O365 (licensing, compliance, collaboration services).
  • Knowledge of Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file/print, and hybrid integration.
  • Azure administration experience (VMs, networking, storage, governance).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, messaging, and hybrid cloud.

Pay

Salary range: $84,000 - $112,000 annually
