About the role

The Medication Access Specialist supports ambulatory care pharmacy programs that ensure patient medication access. This role focuses on completing prior authorizations, communicating with insurers and clinic staff, working on refill protocols, and preventing therapy interruptions. The Specialist serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, payers, and pharmacy teams to ensure smooth medication access.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for prior authorization (PA) and financial assistance (FA) processes.
  • Manage medication refills and related patient support activities.
  • Complete prior authorizations and communicate with insurers and clinic staff.
  • Resolve access barriers and support patient adherence in collaboration with pharmacists, providers, and insurance companies.
  • Coordinate with patient assistance programs (PAPs) and manufacturer hubs for specialty and high-cost medications.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (Required).
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Program (Preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience as a licensed Pharmacy Technician in a clinical, ambulatory care, or specialty pharmacy setting (Required).
  • Demonstrated experience with prior authorizations (PAs), insurance verification, and medication access workflows.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHRs), pharmacy benefit tools, and prior authorization portals (e.g., CoverMyMeds, Surescripts).

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician license from the California Board of Pharmacy (Required).
  • CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) certification from the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) (Required).

Schedule

  • Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20.
  • Temporary position expected to last until December 31, 2026.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $38.04 - $51.35. Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure. Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.
