About the role

The Medication Access Specialist supports ambulatory care pharmacy programs focusing on patient medication access. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting prior authorization and financial assistance processes
  • Managing medication refills to prevent therapy interruptions
  • Communicating with insurers and clinic staff to ensure smooth medication access
  • Serving as a liaison between patients, providers, payers, and pharmacy teams

Responsibilities

  • Completing prior authorizations and communicating with insurers and clinic staff
  • Working on refill protocols to prevent therapy interruptions
  • Collaborating with pharmacists, providers, and insurance companies to resolve access barriers and support patient adherence
  • Understanding specialty and high-cost medications, including coordination with patient assistance programs (PAPs) and manufacturer hubs

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience as a licensed Pharmacy Technician in a clinical, ambulatory care, or specialty pharmacy setting
  • Demonstrated experience with prior authorizations (PAs), insurance verification, and medication access workflows
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHRs), pharmacy benefit tools, and prior authorization portals (e.g., CoverMyMeds, Surescripts, etc)
  • Strong understanding of specialty and high-cost medications, including coordination with patient assistance programs (PAPs) and manufacturer hubs

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program preferred
