- Essential Job Duties:
- Make phone calls to participants on assigned days
- Treat participants with kindness, consideration, and respect
- Ask open-ended questions
- Recognize possible health problems by listening carefully to participant complaints and report any concerns
- Comply with Confidentiality Agreement
- Report calls, preferably by email or, if unable, in writing
- Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must enjoy and value conversations with older adults
- Must have the ability to engage in conversation to ascertain a person’s condition by asking tactful, considerate questions
- Must have the ability to speak clearly, patiently, and at times, slowly
- Must have the ability to speak cheerfully and positively about daily life and shared interests while providing encouragement
- Must have excellent listening skills
- Must have a telephone available to make calls to participants
- Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:
- Work requires reaching, standing, walking, grasping, writing, and/or typing, repetitive motions
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
- Vocal communication is required to convey detailed information at normal spoken word levels
- Vocal communication is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
- Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
- The volunteer is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
