About the role
This full-time night shift position on the telecommunications team at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center serves as the first point of contact for callers, providing general information and transferring calls as needed. The department operates 24/7, and the ideal candidate will have open availability to fill in as needed.
Schedule
11:00 PM – 7:30 AM every Saturday and Sunday, with flexible availability to work 3 additional nights during the week.
Responsibilities
- Create and revise the on-call schedule for various departments as required and communicate coverage to callers.
- Maintain accurate and complete logs and records, including long-distance calls, in accordance with hospital or department procedures.
- Maintain records of physician and professional coverage, including sign-in/out lists.
- Provide answering services for designated physicians and departments, following paging procedures for doctors and residents.
- Maintain the hospital-wide phone directory, including emergency and pager numbers, while adhering to confidentiality policies.
- Print replacement ID badges for associates.
- Assist during emergency situations, notifying proper authorities and maintaining communication during crises (e.g., CODES, fires, elevator issues, phone outages).
- Provide general hospital information and directions to callers; process and direct calls using the Intellidesk system.
- Record and report issues with visitors, patients, and telephones to the proper authority.
- Send emergency conference, visiting hours, and information desk closing pages via intercom and beeper.
- Keep records of house staff sign-in/out times, coverage during absences, and pager assignments.
- Place wake-up calls to doctors and maintain sign-out sheets.
- Create and update monthly on-call schedules for doctors in accordance with department standards.
- Maintain records and schedules of doctors and personnel on duty each evening and for the month.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- 3 months of switchboard and receptionist experience required.
Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Typing and computer proficiency.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Pay
USD $18.40 - USD $29.74 per hour.
