About the role
Dispatches calls for emergency and non-emergency situations for the City. Provides information to police and fire units, connects callers with City services, and files and organizes warrants as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Sets priorities among incoming events and dispatches the police to necessary locations using both radios and computers.
- Maintains radio contact to ensure accurate status of the exact location of equipment and personnel.
- Receives and transmits telephone and radio emergency calls, as well as non-emergency calls, complaints, and inquiries from the public.
- Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas Identification card or Government Issued card is required at the time of job offer and hire.
- Must have reliable form of transportation to and from work site and is expected to arrive at work site on a timely basis.
Required Certifications (to be obtained within 6 months of employment)
- 40 Hour Basic Telecommunicator Certification
- 24-hour TCIC/TLETS full access with CCH certificate
- 4 Hour TTY or TDD Certification
- First Aid Standard Certification
- Adult, Child, & Infant CPR Certification
- Cardiac Emergency Communications Certification
- TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Telecommunicator License
Knowledge
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software.
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures for emergency medical dispatch (EMD).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
