About the role
The Emergency Communications Center handles calls for service, dispatches emergency response teams, and provides vital information to both citizens and first responders.
Responsibilities
- Operates emergency communications systems to receive and transmit messages for law enforcement, fire, emergency medical service, and non-emergency calls.
- Screens complaints and requests for service, determines priority, and dispatches necessary officials.
- Maintains tangible computer records and logs of all calls and services requested with response times.
- Provides post-dispatch and pre-arrival instructions for medical and fire calls as defined by protocols.
- Maintains knowledge of locations and activities of emergency response personnel.
- Coordinates critical actions in response to alerts and warnings.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on emergency communications equipment.
- Answers telephone and receives inquiries, providing information or referring callers as necessary.
- Assists in training new employees and completing reports on their progress.
- Remains on call 24 hours a day for emergency situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
- DCI (Division of Criminal Information System) certification.
- EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and EFD (Emergency Fire Dispatch) Certification.
- CPR and Telecommunicator Certification.
Qualifications
- Some experience in general clerical work.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Skills
- Knowledge of the geographical layout of the County.
- Working knowledge of the operation and location of law enforcement and emergency service units.
- Some knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for an emergency communications center.
- Ability to operate emergency communication equipment and computer systems.
- Sound independent judgment and initiative.
- Ability to elicit information from distressed persons.
- Professionalism and tactfulness.

$45,972.00 - $75,792.00
Schedule
