POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, operates communication equipment (e.g. 9-1-1 telephone system, trunked radio systems, computer aided dispatching, LEADS, TDD, etc.). Reviews emergency Miami County Communication Center calls, and ensures they are directed properly. Extracts pertinent information from callers to ensure certain information is accurate. Dispatches emergency units. Enters data into system to update database and makes corrections. Enters new data and deletes old data. Maintains records on calls and incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • No experience required, all training is completed on the job
  • Available to work all shifts, including days or nights, weekends and holidays

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • On the job paid training post-employment
  • Must successfully complete LEADS Operator Certification, Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) Basic Telecommunicator Certification, and APCO Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification

DUTIES

This position requires exceptional skills in using computer/radio and telephone systems. You must have the ability to deal with a variety of variables in somewhat unfamiliar context, copy records precisely without error, gather collate and classify information about people, data or things. You must communicate effectively in written and oral form while exercising sound judgment and demonstrating calm while handling critical and/or stressful situations.

$26.43 per hour with 4% increase to $28.75 in 6 months
