Telecommunicator (Airport Police Dispatcher)

Location: St. Louis Lambert International Airport (Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.)

This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive is $1,500.00 (paid if funds are available and not available to current City employees).

About the Role

Incumbents in this position receive calls and dispatch emergency response or repair personnel at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch emergency response personnel in matters regarding emergency, fire, administrative, and other situations.
• Receive incoming calls, direct callers, and provide information.
• Determine location and nature of complaint and record or enter all self-initiated and dispatched calls into a computer system.
• Use two-way radio to perform computer-aided dispatch duties; dispatch emergency response personnel, including Police, Fire, and EMS.
• Forward complaints to supervisor or department within the Airport Police as needed, or direct callers to other Airport departments as appropriate.
• Request information, validate records, and complete necessary forms.

Requirements

• One year of recent full-time paid dispatching experience; OR, one year of customer service experience in a call center work environment.
• Must be available to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• A ten-year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Certifications

For positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, incumbents must obtain certifications for REJIS (Regional Justice Information System), MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System), and NCIC (National Crime Information Center) by the end of their working test period and maintain them while employed by the City of St. Louis.

• Mathematical Aptitude: Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Situational Reasoning: Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria.

Working Conditions

• Environmental Factors: Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions. Limited risk of exposure to irate individuals.
• Physical Requirements: Tasks involve moderate physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 12 to 20 pounds. May involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
• Sensory Requirements: Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences in colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks, such as responding to alarms and using radio equipment.

Pay

Salary: $47,424 - $71,110
