About the Role
Astrion is seeking a journeyman Technical Writer to support government customers at Robins AFB in Georgia. This full-time position requires a Top Secret clearance and may involve travel as required by the government customer.
Responsibilities
- Apply writing skills and specialized subject-matter knowledge to communicate scientific and technological developments to expert and non-expert audiences.
- Develop specifications, training manuals, operating manuals, and maintenance manuals for equipment and systems.
- Articulate agency policies and explain technical aspects of programs to affected stakeholders.
- Ensure materials are consistent with agency policy, style requirements, and appropriate for the intended audience.
- Use desktop publishing tools to draft, edit, layout, design, print, and distribute materials.
- Manage publications from conception through distribution, coordinating with other publishing personnel.
- Perform final reviews of publications for style, design, layout, and editorial aspects before release.
- Prepare original papers, articles, reports, manuals, and specifications based on research, interviews, and participation in tests or experiments.
- Obtain, analyze, and select pertinent information to determine narrative sequence, length, and tone.
- Consult on or select illustrative material and prepare it for publication.
- Write technical direction for product announcements, marketing brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications.
- Collaborate with customer representatives, vendors, system engineers, and program managers to establish technical specifications.
- Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to create user documentation, including how-to guides and instruction manuals.
- Prepare charts, graphs, and forms to accompany drafts.
- Ensure document contents follow required formats and maintain consistency across multiple documents.
- Create tables of contents, cite sources, and submit documents for managerial feedback.
- Maintain an electronic library of all signed documents and final presentations.
- Provide updates and different editions of documents as necessary.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience, with 3 years in DoD or other U.S. Government ISR/SOF organizations.
- OR 7 years of directly related experience with proper certifications, including 5 years in DoD or other U.S. Government ISR/SOF organizations.
- OR GED and at least 2 years of experience in the respective profession, with 2 years in DoD or ISR/SOF mission areas.
Skills
- Technical writing experience within the DoD, particularly in information or business systems environments.
- Excellent writing skills and a strong command of English grammar.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and organizations.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Microsoft Project and Access is desired.
