About the role

We are looking for a Technical Director - Emergency Preparedness to join our team based in the US East Region. This role involves mentoring and guiding a team, managing environmental emergencies, and collaborating with clients and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and guide the team in emergency response and preparedness
  • Tackle environmental emergencies with clients and agencies
  • Collaborate on business development and client expansion activities
  • Lead environmental sampling and monitoring programs
  • Spearhead regional visibility initiatives
  • Manage key client and customer relationships
  • Contribute to a community of practice in emergency management
  • Manage data collection and analysis activities
  • Develop and write materials for critical audiences
  • Manage environmental impact assessments
  • Manage environmental risk management activities
  • Formulate functional strategies
  • Evaluate staff capabilities and implement development activities
  • Manage and report on performance within the department
  • Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Manage and execute major projects
  • Respond to bid solicitations, proposals, and tenders
  • Secure permissions and consents for development sites
  • Analyze complex information sources to develop innovative solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental emergency response and preparedness
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental site assessments and remediation
  • 7+ years of Project Management Experience
  • Track record of revenue growth through Business Development activities
  • Effective communication skills with technical professionals, clients, and regulatory officials
  • Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, team player, and leader
  • Mentorship and coaching skills to assist with junior staff development
  • Strong delegation skills to manage emergency projects
  • Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time (mostly local, some regional)
  • On-call 24/7/365 availability for technical assistance
  • Organizational skills for day-to-day operations and complex responses/projects
  • Experience with railroad, pipeline, and oil & gas-related emergencies

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of emergency preparedness, air monitoring, environmental assessment/sampling, ICS, SCAT, and regulatory compliance (PHMSA, EPA, DOT)
  • Experience with railroad, pipeline, and oil & gas-related emergencies

Skills

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills

  • Proficient in project management and business development
  • Knowledgeable in emergency preparedness, environmental science, and related fields
  • Experience with digital technology, UAVs, GIS, and other relevant tools

Pay

$136,000 - $238,000 based on experience and location.
