Technical Director – Emergency Preparedness

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Director - Emergency Preparedness to lead our team in environmental emergencies and collaborate with clients and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and guide the team in emergency response and preparedness
  • Collaborate with clients and agencies to ensure effective response and resolution
  • Take the reins in environmental emergencies, including emergency management, client relationship management, and business development
  • Lead environmental sampling and monitoring programs and regional visibility initiatives
  • Manage key client and customer relationships
  • Contribute to thought leadership and develop innovative practices within a defined area of expertise
  • Manage data collection and analysis activities
  • Develop and write highly visible materials like sensitive press releases or speeches
  • Manage environmental impact assessments, including data analysis, mitigation strategy planning, and report preparation
  • Manage environmental risk activities aligned with regulations and sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure adherence to HSE policies, procedures, and instructions
  • Evaluate and develop strategies for significant areas of responsibility
  • Coach and mentor junior staff to support talent development
  • Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for important areas of responsibility
  • Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility
  • Develop and complete proposals in response to complex bid solicitations
  • Secure permissions and consents for development sites
  • Analyze complex information sources to develop innovative solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental emergency response and preparedness, environmental site assessments and remediation
  • 7+ years of Project Management Experience
  • Track record of revenue growth through Business Development activities
  • Effective communication with technical professionals, clients, and regulatory officials
  • Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, team player, and leader
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills to assist with development of junior staff
  • Strong delegation skills to ensure emergency projects are staffed and managed appropriately
  • Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time (mostly local, some regional)
  • On-call 24/7/365 and respond to call outs and requests for technical assistance during non-routine working hours
  • Strong organizational skills to assist with day-to-day operations and organize complex responses/projects
  • Experience with emergency preparedness, air monitoring, environmental assessment/sampling, ICS, SCAT, regulatory compliance (PHMSA, EPA, DOT)
  • Experience with railroad, pipeline, and oil & gas related emergencies

$136,000 - $238,000 based on experience and location.

Asynchronous, with some on-call responsibilities.
