About the role

Arbor Realty Trust is seeking a Manager, Technical Accounting to join our Finance team. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex, high-impact accounting and reporting matters across a dynamic real estate finance organization. The Manager will serve as a key technical accounting resource, evaluating evolving accounting and SEC guidance, researching and documenting complex transactions, and partnering with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate changes to Accounting Standards Codifications (ASC), SEC regulations, and regulatory reporting requirements, and communicate impact on the company’s financial reporting.
  • Analyze, research, and conclude on proposed company initiatives and completed transactions, preparing complex memorandums summarizing the impact.
  • Liaise closely with external auditors and counsel on technical accounting and reporting issues, building strong collaborative relationships and open, transparent communication.
  • Manage and review the variable interest entities (consolidations) and current expected credit losses (CECL) processes performed by other departments.
  • Assist in review of SEC reporting requirements and participate in disclosure committee meetings.
  • Lead or assist in review of potential transactions, special projects, and other ad-hoc requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation standards, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Train and review the work of accounting team members.
  • Ensure SOX 404 compliance for areas of responsibility, including periodic updates to process narratives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and/or focus in real estate or the mortgage industry.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and technical accounting skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting the accounting treatment of complex transactions and disclosure guidance.
  • Experience in application of ASC 810 – Consolidations and/or ASC 326 – CECL a plus.
  • Flexibility and willingness to pivot to new priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on professional with excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate projects within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas.
  • Strong computer skills, with experience leveraging advanced Excel functions, financial systems, automation, and generative AI to organize and analyze data and enhance productivity.

Pay

The starting base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $175,000. The specific compensation that will be offered is based on an understanding of the hired candidate's qualifications at the time of hire. Employees are eligible for a discretionary bonus based on employee work performance reviewed during the course of the year.
