Responsibilities
- Affirms the educational needs of assigned patients during hospitalization.
- Contacts previous educational settings and reviews written records.
- Prepares assessments and daily lesson plans based on evaluations and IEPs.
- Generates lesson plans no later than the second day of educational programming.
- Writes detailed lesson plans to ensure substitutes can implement them.
- Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Provides academic assignments and materials to students at the start of the day.
- Defines classroom rules and schedules through verbal or written instruction.
- Offers individualized instructional help as needed.
- Reports to work on time and prepares for daily assignments.
- Ensures local school systems are informed about the child’s academic recommendations upon discharge.
- Submits a discharge summary according to departmental format.
- Demonstrates the ability to function as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with team members.
- Consults with other clinical staff regarding patients’ educational and behavioral programs.
- Assists other team members in interpreting evaluation findings.
- Participates in departmental staff meetings and accepts delegated responsibilities.
- Suggests improvements in department functions related to educational services.
- Shares expertise and provides support to other educational staff members.
- Participates in Total Quality Management activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in special education.
- Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education (appropriate levels of handicapped certification).
- Minimum of one year teaching experience.
