About the role

In collaboration with the classroom team, is responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently applies the corporate values of respect, honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly, geographically-accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system.
  • In collaboration with the classroom team, assists in the formulation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
  • In collaboration with the classroom team, implements social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs. This may include assisting students with activities of daily life such as toileting and other forms of self-care.
  • In collaboration with the classroom team, collects and manages data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
  • In collaboration with the classroom team, prepares and presents verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
  • Assists in implementation of the academic and social-emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
  • Provides academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Prepares and submits required paperwork for the student record.
  • Attends and participates in classroom team meetings and other student-related meetings as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in supervisory sessions, staff meetings or other meetings as assigned.
  • Observes all Bradley Schools policies, rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
  • EXPERIENCE: Prior experience working with children is helpful.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel.

Benefits

Employees in this position work in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions associated with care of psychiatrically impaired, aggressive, and sometimes, self-injurious students. Employees are expected to utilize de-escalation techniques taught by LSS to minimize need for physical intervention. They must have the ability to remain calm during a crisis situation as evidenced by the ability to make quick rational decisions and prioritize immediate student care needs to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety.
