Summary
In collaboration with the classroom team, is responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students.Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the classroom team, assists in the formulation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
- In collaboration with the classroom team, implements social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs. This may include assisting students with activities of daily life such as toileting and other forms of self-care.
- In collaboration with the classroom team, collects and manages data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
- In collaboration with the classroom team, prepares and presents verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
- Assists in implementation of the academic and social-emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
- Provides academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Prepares and submits required paperwork for the student record.
- Attends and participates in classroom team meetings and other student-related meetings as assigned.
- Attends and participates in supervisory sessions, staff meetings or other meetings as assigned.
- Observes all Bradley Schools policies, rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as required, assigned, or directed.
Education
- Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
- Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel. For those without this background upon hire, Excel training will be provided.
- Bradley Hospital Safety Care Certification.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children is helpful.
- Employees in this position work in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions associated with care of psychiatrically impaired, aggressive, and sometimes, self-injurious students.
- Employees are expected to utilize de-escalation techniques taught by LSS to minimize need for physical intervention. They must have the ability to remain calm during a crisis situation as evidenced by the ability to make quick rational decisions and prioritize immediate student care needs to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety.
- Specifically, such employees must be able to:
- Lift up to fifty pounds.
- Reach with their hands and arms.
- Grasp and hold with their hands.
- Bend/squat/kneel without limitation.
- Physically escort students who may become combative for short distances.
- Position requires occasional running for short distances, and frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
