Teacher 1,2,3,4 (NY HELPS)

Responsibilities

• Conduct class sessions using prepared lesson plans in the absence of the permanent teacher.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and therapeutic learning environment.
• Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.

Requirements

• Teacher 1: Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
• Teacher 2: New York State provisional, initial, or conditional initial certification in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 3: New York State permanent or professional certification in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 4: New York State permanent or professional certification in the appropriate specialty and two years of post-certification teaching experience in the appropriate specialty.

Preferred certification: 7-12 grade level (certification may be at K-6 grade level). Level of appointment is based on training and experience.

Background Investigation

• All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks.
• All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or falsified/omitted information on the employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment.
• Prospective employees will be fingerprinted and may be required to pay associated fees.
• Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) is required, with possible fees.
• For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) appointees, a check against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) is mandatory. Individuals found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment.
