About the Role
Instruct a course(s) recognized by the New York State Education Department. Prepare or modify curriculum and course outlines. Prepare daily or weekly lesson plans and conduct a schedule of formal instruction for residents of an Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) facility.

Requirements
- One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
- Current New York State Education Department certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty:
- Teacher 2: Initial certification.
- Teacher 3: Permanent/professional certification.
- Teacher 4: Permanent/professional certification and two years of post-certification teaching experience in the same specialty.
- Preferred specialty: Science 7-12 Certification (MUST be at the 7-12 grade level).
- Appointment level commensurate with certification.
Background Investigation
- All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks.
- Convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions or falsified/omitted information may bar appointment or result in removal.
- Prospective employees will be fingerprinted and may be required to pay associated fees.
- Screening against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) is required, with potential fees.
- For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) appointees, a check against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) is required; those found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment.
Pay
- Teacher 2: $50,844 (SG-13)
- Teacher 3: $56,807 (SG-15)
- Teacher 4: $63,361 (SG-17)
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment if the candidate meets the minimum qualifications. Non-competitive appointments may later convert to competitive status without examination.
