Teacher 2,3,4 (NY HELPS)

Duties Description

Instruct a course(s) recognized by the New York State Education Department.

Prepare or modify curriculum and course outlines.

Prepare daily or weekly lesson plans and conduct a schedule of formal instruction for residents of an Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) facility.

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

Requirements for Appointment at Each Level

• Teacher 2: Current New York State Education Department initial certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 3: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.
• Teacher 4: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty and two years of post-certification (initial or permanent/professional) teaching experience in that same specialty.

Additional Comments

• Preferred specialties: Social Studies, Math, Science and Special Education.

Requirements for Continued Employment

• Possession of a permanent/professional or provisional/initial New York State certificate in the appropriate specialty is necessary for continued employment.
• Losing certification will result in termination of employment.

Background Investigation Requirements

• All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment.
• All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).
• For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
