TDCJ - Accountant II - Information Technology

Responsibilities

  • Performs departmental purchasing and accounts payable functions.
  • Prepares financial statements, financial technical reports, and related accounting documents to include estimates, cost data, and budget items.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual program budget.
  • Reviews agency expenditures, funds, appropriations, expense and revenue collection records to ensure agency assets are accounted for properly.
  • Audits accounting and control records for accuracy and compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Researches reconciliation discrepancies and reports findings.
  • Recommends improvements, adaptations, and revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures.
  • Provides technical assistance to program staff and other agency departments on accounting matters.
  • Assists agency administrators in applying financial data to the resolution of administrative or operating problems.

Requirements

You'd be a GOOD fit if:

  • You have a bachelor's degree.
  • You have two years full-time, wage-earning accounting, accounts payable, or purchasing experience.

You'd be a GREAT fit if:

  • You have telecommunications experience.
  • You have a solid understanding of:
    • Accounting principles.
    • Relevant state and federal regulations.
    • Cellular equipment and terminology.
    • ADPICS and Lonestars accounting systems.
    • Agency policies and procedures.
  • You communicate clearly and coordinate well with others.
  • You can interpret and apply rules and regulations.
  • You are skilled in:
    • Problem-solving.
    • Working with computers and networked systems.
    • Maintaining complex automated records.
    • Reviewing technical data.
    • Preparing reports.
    • Analyzing accounting information.
    • Resolving discrepancies.
    • Operating a 10-key calculator.
    • Using Microsoft Office or similar software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, or presentations.

Additional Information

  • Travel: None – Position may make day trips, but no overnight trips.
  • Work Site Visits: Yes.
  • Outside applicants will be required to submit to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Hazardous Duty/Longevity Position: Longevity.
