About the role

We are looking for an experienced tax leader to support ultra-high-net-worth families and senior executives with sophisticated planning and compliance needs in Houston, Texas. This role combines deep technical knowledge with a relationship-driven approach, helping clients navigate matters involving income, estate, gift, trust, retirement, and philanthropic tax considerations. The position offers the opportunity to lead complex engagements, collaborate with internal and external advisors, and contribute to the continued growth of a high-performing private client practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic tax guidance to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family groups across wealth transfer planning, charitable strategies, retirement matters, and ongoing compliance obligations.
  • Direct complex client engagements involving individual, fiduciary, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and estate tax matters, ensuring quality execution and strong client outcomes.
  • Identify emerging client issues and coordinate with specialized tax professionals and cross-functional teams to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Build and expand client relationships by contributing to business development efforts, preparing proposals, and cultivating new opportunities in the market.
  • Mentor, develop, and support team members while fostering a collaborative environment focused on excellence and career growth.
  • Represent the practice through participation in technical committees, technical initiatives, and strategic planning activities at the local and broader firm level.
  • Strengthen connections with clients, referral sources, and other advisors through networking, thought leadership, and involvement in the community.
  • Promote an enterprise-minded culture by encouraging teamwork, shared accountability, and alignment with organizational goals and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Active CPA license in the relevant state, or credentials such as J.D. or Enrolled Agent with appropriate approval.
  • At least 10 years of public accounting experience, including significant work with private clients and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
  • Demonstrated success leading tax engagements from planning through delivery while managing client relationships and supporting practice growth.
  • Strong technical knowledge of individual, fiduciary, investment partnership, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxation.
  • Working knowledge of multi-state tax matters and the implications for complex individual and family structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and manage a sizable book of business.
  • Experience with tax technology and compliance tools such as CCH ProSystem fx, along with familiarity in areas including income tax provision, corporate tax returns, sales tax, and entity formation.
