About the role
A junior to mid-level associate is sought to join the Tax-Exempt Organizations team within the firm’s Tax Practice in our New York or Washington, DC office.
Responsibilities
- Represent nonprofits, philanthropists, and companies in structuring and implementing creative solutions to address complex challenges.
- Provide legal advice on operational, governance, and regulatory matters for public charities, private foundations, international NGOs, and social welfare advocacy groups.
- Work closely with high-net-worth individuals and their controlled entities on cutting-edge venture philanthropy transactions.
- Particularly focus on representing medical research organizations and negotiating and structuring academic research consortia, private foundations in the development and implementation of complex grantmaking and impact investment programs, structuring and operating international affiliate structures, and working with family offices to achieve funders’ philanthropic and policy goals.
Requirements
- At least two to four years of relevant tax-exempt law experience.
- A record of outstanding academic achievement.
- Superior writing and analytical skills.
- A demonstrated interest in tax-exempt organizations.
Qualifications
- Currently licensed, or currently eligible to become licensed, to practice law in the jurisdiction(s) where they apply.
Skills
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Pay
The salary range for this position in New York and Washington DC is $235,000 - $365,000, commensurate with experience.
