Tax Analyst (hybrid)
Location: Columbus, OH (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
About the role
This position resides within the dynamic, fast-paced Corporate Tax Department at NiSource. Responsibilities may include monthly tax accounting and financial reporting, preparation of complex separate entity and consolidated Federal and state sales, use, property, and excise tax returns, as well as preparation of tax aspects of the Company's financial plans and assistance with tax research, strategic tax planning, and required reporting/planning for NiSource's entities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for tax compliance deadlines: filing returns, managing tax payments, and responding to notices from taxing authorities.
- Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences (Professional Judgment).
- Compiles, organizes, and formats data, including qualitative analysis required for internal and external reporting. Identifies and researches reporting issues, provides recommendations, and assists with the adoption of new reporting requirements (Reporting).
- Recognizes situations where the regulatory framework and rate case outcomes drive business; supports regulatory initiatives by gathering data and preparing regulatory schedules and/or pro-forma calculations, testimony, and data requests; assists with review and analysis of regulatory documents; appreciates the application of the regulatory construct to business (Regulatory).
- Understands terminology and developments. Knows when to and can apply technical knowledge to processes, procedures, and tasks (Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills).
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of financial statements, metrics, and measures, and key strategic business initiatives; understands and utilizes economic and industry data as it relates to job responsibilities (Business Acumen).
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the operating plan and role in the F&A organization; has a general knowledge of other departments' roles in the F&A organization; collaboratively develops solutions between corporate and business units.
- Documents work fully and accurately to demonstrate commitment to quality.
- Takes action to identify, analyze, and improve existing processes within the organization to maximize opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness and meet new goals and objectives.
- As a public utility, NiSource provides essential services to customers 24/7. Emergency needs can arise at various times throughout the year, including during storm season. Employees may be required to support emergency response efforts, which could include working outside normal hours or assisting with tasks outside of typical responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Requires a 4-year degree in a business discipline.
- 1-2 years of experience in finance, accounting, regulatory, or a related field; previous tax (sales and use or property) experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of PC applications.
- Multiple functional experience.
- Financial Acumen: Understands basics of finance and accounting, including relationships between segments of financial statements (e.g., balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow).
- Continuous Improvement: Originates action to improve existing conditions and processes; identifies improvement opportunities, generates ideas, and implements solutions.
- Data analysis: Analyzes information from a variety of sources to detect trends, associations, cause-effect relationships, and other anomalies.
- Time management: Effectively manages time to ensure deadlines are met and quality is achieved.
- Networking: Pursues opportunities to network with different parts of finance as well as other parts of NiSource.
- Quality Orientation: Produces processes, tasks, and work products to ensure freedom from errors, omissions, or defects.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Pay
Salary Range: $69,900.00 - $105,000.00. The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
