About the Role
Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking an experienced and skilled recruiter to join our team to support hiring for trades positions. This position will be responsible for recruiting prospective employees, selecting and hiring top talent in the trades industry, and acting as a central point of contact for applicants and hiring managers throughout the full talent acquisition process.
The environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to multi-task as you review applications, conduct interviews, check references, extend formal job offers, work with outside agencies and vendors, and attend hiring events. We frequently partner with the business on tactical and strategic talent planning and drive the matching of candidate skills with critical trade positions. This role involves developing connections with candidates and stakeholders to efficiently achieve goals, improve processes, and own outcomes. Collaboration, a sense of urgency, responsiveness, and critical thinking are essential to success in this team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews to recruit prospective employees and refer job applicants to specific job openings.
- Evaluate employment factors such as job experience, education, training, skills, knowledge, abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other relevant data.
- Prepare ratings on applicants, make recommendations on starting salaries, and provide applicants with company information.
- Administer tests and interpret results, check references, arrange transportation for selected applicants, extend formal job offers, and work with outside agencies and vendors.
- Partner with the business on tactical and strategic talent planning to match candidate skills with critical trade positions.
- Attend hiring events and maintain a positive candidate experience.
Requirements
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience.
- Master’s Degree and 1 year of relevant professional experience.
- NNS Apprentice School graduate.
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate.
- Associate’s Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience.
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience.
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant exempt experience.
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant non-exempt experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience recruiting skilled trades is preferred.

Pay
The anticipated salary range for this role is $68,000.00 to $85,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
