About the Role

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking a recruiter to join our team to support hiring for trades positions. This position will be responsible for recruiting prospective employees to our workforce development pipeline programs and acting as a liaison with local high schools and trade schools. The role serves as a central point of contact with education partners, connecting with students and others looking to develop experience in the skilled trades.

The environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to multi-task while reviewing applications, conducting interviews, extending formal job offers, working with outside agencies and vendors, attending hiring events, and supporting high school and trade school career fairs. The candidate experience is a priority, so strong communication skills are essential to highlight why NNS is the employer of choice for the next generation of shipbuilders.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to achieve hiring goals, working effectively in a team setting, and demonstrating a sense of urgency and responsiveness. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are vital to finding the best solutions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews to recruit prospective employees and refer job applicants to specific job openings.
• Evaluate employment factors such as job experience, education, training, skills, knowledge, abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other relevant data.
• Prepare ratings on applicants, make recommendations on starting salaries, and provide applicants with company information.
• Administer tests, interpret results, check references, arrange transportation for selected applicants, and extend formal job offers.
• Work with outside agencies and vendors, attend hiring events, and support high school and trade school career fairs.
• Act as a liaison with education partners to develop connections with students and candidates.

Requirements

Must have a Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience. Equivalent qualifications may include:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• Associate's Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
• Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
• High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant exempt experience
• High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant non-exempt experience

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is $57,000.00 to $72,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
