Systems Engineer
About the role
This role focuses on the early phases of the Systems Engineering V, with a strong emphasis on developing, decomposing, and managing complex system requirements and interfaces for large-scale, multi-disciplinary defense systems. The Systems Engineer will work extensively on requirements engineering, interface definition, and detailed technical documentation to support sophisticated system architectures and integrations.
Responsibilities
- Develop, decompose, and manage large volumes of system requirements, including thousands of individual requirements across complex systems.
- Author, update, and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and other detailed technical documentation.
- Define and document data, power, radio frequency (RF), and cabling requirements for system and subsystem interfaces.
- Establish, document, and manage system and subsystem interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Support and maintain requirements traceability, including linking requirements to design, verification, and validation artifacts.
- Track, assess, and document changes to requirements and interfaces.
- Evaluate proposed technical changes and contribute to the development of engineering change products, including impact assessments and related documentation.
- Participate in reviews and working sessions to ensure alignment of requirements and interfaces with overall system architecture and program objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with requirements development and documentation for complex systems.
- Strong experience with requirements engineering, including authoring, decomposition, and traceability of requirements.
- Experience using DOORS, Engineering Requirements Documents, or similar requirements management tools.
- Proven ability to write detailed technical documentation, with a strong preference for experience authoring Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Ability to manage high-volume, detail-intensive engineering workstreams in a structured and organized manner.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with technical teams, stakeholders, and customers in both virtual and in-person environments.
Essential Skills
- Experience in electrical engineering domains such as RF, communications, power, and data systems.
- Experience defining and managing data requirements, including data interfaces and data flows.
- Experience defining RF requirements and working with radio frequency systems.
- Experience specifying and documenting data, cabling, and power requirements for complex systems.
- Familiarity with interface implementation, including understanding of radio frequency behavior, electromagnetic interference considerations, circuit logic, and electronic components.
- Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V lifecycle and its application to complex, multi-disciplinary systems.
- Prior experience supporting Navy or other defense-related systems.
- Experience with engineering change requests, including impact assessments and participation in review cycles.

Work Environment
The role follows a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the office and mandatory in-office presence on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The position operates on a 9/80 schedule, providing a structured yet flexible work arrangement. Work is highly collaborative, involving regular interaction with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders in both virtual and on-site settings, and centers on complex defense-system development using formal requirements and configuration management tools.

This is a Contract position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.
