Switchboard Operator

Description Summary

The Switchboard Operator facilitates all telecommunications within the hospital. Receives and directs incoming calls to the appropriate party in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Routes all incoming calls to specified areas in a professional manner.
• Provides appropriate information to callers.
• Performs overhead paging.
• Provides paging services.
• Assigns pagers upon request.
• Initiates the response for all code situations.
• Maintains a high degree of confidentiality at all times.

Other Information

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required, any higher education from an accredited college will supersede this requirement.
• Licensure/Certification: None.
• Experience: At least one year of experience in a hospital environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Clear speaking voice.
• Ability to speak, read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
• Valid NC Driver’s License: No
