Surgical Tech - OR

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the written individualized Physician Preference card for the surgical procedure.
• Coincides with circulating nurse to supply, equipment, and instruments for designated surgical procedure.
• Adheres to proper sterile technique.
• Conducts and documents sponge, instrument and needle counts and operating room time-out procedures.
• Recognizes, intervenes and reports, as indicated, any changes in the patient's status in a timely manner.
• Promptly answers patient's needs and requests pre-operatively and inter-operatively.
• Utilizes a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
• Coincides with circulating nurse to consistently evaluate case progress and patient's safety.
• Utilizes appropriate charging mechanisms and assists with recovery of lost charges.
• Performs other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Special Skills: Excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills.
• Minimum Requirements: Education - High school graduate or equivalent GED for all current employees. Completion of formal ORT program for all new hires.
• Experience: Thorough knowledge and experience in operative procedures, equipment and instrumentation. Licensure/Certification is CPR.
• Preferred Requirements: Experience - One year of hospital/surgical background or experience. Certification/Registration - Completion of accredited Operating Room Technology course.
