Surgical Tech - Bone and Joint

About the role

Surgical Technologists prepare operating rooms, assist during surgeries, and ensure sterile technique.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments, review surgeon preferences, and establish sterile fields.
• Assist surgeons as a second assistant, including draping, exposure, and handling instruments.
• Support with specimen handling, medication mixing, patient positioning, and equipment maintenance.
• Participate in room turnover, supply management, and unit operations to enhance departmental efficiency.
• Mentor new staff, ensure competency compliance, and collaborate with team members.

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or GED; BLS certification required; ST certification preferred.
• Completion of accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent military training, or 10+ years' experience.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs, demonstrate critical thinking, and work independently in complex cases.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and OR protocols.

Restrictions

• Cannot perform invasive procedures, administer medications, set up IVs, or operate cautery equipment.
• Must adhere to safety and competency standards.
