Surgical Oncologist Faculty Appointment

Position Summary

The Department of Surgery seeks applications for a full-time surgical oncologist to join our Division of Surgical Oncology. The Division of Surgical Oncology is one of nine clinical divisions in the Department of Surgery. It currently comprises 15 faculty members and 9 advanced practice providers who provide a broad range of clinical services to deliver the highest quality multidisciplinary care for oncology patients. The Division is also actively engaged in leading and contributing to our extensive portfolio of clinical and translational research and educational missions, collaborating with the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This appointment may be offered as a fixed-term, tenure/tenure-track, or variable appointment at 0.5 to 1.0 FTE. Academic appointments will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. Clinical responsibilities include participation in multidisciplinary care, tumor boards, and surgical support of oncology programs. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering high-quality clinical care that is valuable to the patients of the UNC Healthcare system. This position is suitable for a surgical oncologist with significant interest and experience in clinical trials and a broad interest or flexibility in multiple cancer types. Faculty members are expected to regularly contribute to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Exceptional skills and achievements may lead to leadership positions within the Department of Surgery.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Prospective candidates must be Board Certified/Board eligible in General Surgery and fellowship-trained.
• The chosen candidate must either hold a current North Carolina Medical License or be eligible for application.
• Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues both within and outside the Division of Surgical Oncology and the Department of Surgery.
• Candidates must express a strong commitment to the Department and School of Medicine's clinical, educational, and research missions.
• Candidates must be committed to delivering high-quality clinical care that is valuable to the patients of the UNC Healthcare system.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

• This position favors general surgical oncology expertise.
• Experience teaching or mentoring medical students and residents is a plus.
