Surgery Tech Extern

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine and assigned Surgical Technologist tasks.
• Assist the Surgical Technologist with patient care activities within the scope of training and experience.
• Set up the operating room, ensuring equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
• Absorb and maintain a sterile field during surgery.
• Pass surgical instruments and hold retractors as needed.
• Facilitate case turnover and ensure proper instrument and equipment care post-procedure.
• May provide support when additional staff are needed under direct supervision of a precepting Surgical Technologist.

Qualifications

• Skills and competencies necessary to provide care to patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric.
• Customer service skills demonstrated by being courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and fellow employees.
• Ability to introduce self by name and job title when speaking in person or by telephone to patients, their families, and others.
• Demonstration of honesty, discretion, and confidentiality in all work environments.
• Follows standards of conduct and procedures of the hospital and applicable laws and regulations.
• Reports violations through the appropriate chain of command.
• Reports safety concerns and hazardous conditions in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Provides safe and efficient care to ensure quality patient outcomes.
