Surgery Coordinator - Thoracic Surgery
Position Purpose
The Surgery Coordinator serves as the primary point of coordination for patients undergoing thoracic surgical procedures. This role is responsible for managing surgical scheduling, coordinating pre- and post-operative care, communicating with patients and healthcare providers, and ensuring all required documentation is complete for a seamless surgical experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all aspects of surgical scheduling, including surgeon, surgical assistant, operating room, and patient scheduling.
- Arrange and coordinate pre-operative testing, preparation, and post-operative follow-up appointments.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, surgeons, hospitals, referring providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Cook up referrals and assist with insurance authorizations and surgery-related billing processes.
- Educate patients regarding their upcoming surgery, including procedure expectations, risks, benefits, recovery, and follow-up care.
- Ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate, including informed consent, sterilization consent (when applicable), and verification of advance directive status.
- Maintain accurate patient records and support efficient clinic operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Licensure: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a healthcare office setting, including scheduling, surgical coordination, and/or insurance authorizations.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to reach above and below shoulder level, lift, bend, kneel, squat, stand, walk, and sit throughout the scheduled workday.
- Ability to use a computer, electronic medical record, and telephone for approximately 90% of the workday.
- Duties involve possible, but not routine, exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
