About the role
The Surgery Coordinator at Community Eye Care Specialists is responsible for the coordination and education of services for patients. Key responsibilities include premium services conversion, surgery scheduling, paperwork management, and patient coordination of all procedures provided by our doctors.
Responsibilities
- Convert premium services for patients
- Provide pre-op and postoperative counseling to patients
- Schedule and manage appointment dates/times for patients and physicians using a computerized scheduling system
- Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinic/ASC and at outside facilities
- Route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements
- Document all information pertinent to patient treatment accurately, thoroughly, and completely
- Returns and responds to all calls relating to scheduling
- Ensures any necessary medical clearances are obtained by the patient prior to surgery
- Communicate with referring providers as needed
- Coordinate with assigned physician and surgery center staff to ensure all special supplies are received prior to the surgical date and inform ASC of any additional patients
- Reschedule appointments as needed
- Help with other ancillary tasks such as following up with no-shows or cancellations, updating consent forms, training sessions, etc.
Requirements
- Aceess to an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or higher, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably for an ophthalmology physician
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience with EMR software (preferably with Ophthalmology-specific software)
- Experience with patient customer service
- Knowledge of obtaining authorizations and referrals
- Knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures
- Ability to work with Excel, Word, and medical software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
- Highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the office
Qualifications
- Knowledge and adherence to HIPAA, Compliance, OSHA
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
- Skills in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve practice objectives
