About the role
The Surgery Coordinator at MidWest Eye Center is responsible for coordinating surgeries, educating patients about services, and ensuring compliance with pre- and post-operative regimens. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Premium services conversion
- Surgery scheduling
- Paperwork management
- Patient coordination of all procedures
- Pre-op and postoperative counseling
- Scheduling appointment dates/times using a computerized system
- Interacting with patients, physicians, and staff
- Providing accurate, thorough, and complete documentation
- Responding to calls related to scheduling
- Ensuring medical clearances are obtained
- Communicating with referring providers
- Coordinating with physicians and surgery center staff
- Training sessions with physicians
- Other ancillary tasks as needed
Requirements
- A.A./B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably in ophthalmology
- Experience with EMR software (preferably for ophthalmology)
- Experience with patient customer service
- Knowledge of obtaining authorizations and referrals
- Knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and medical software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task efficiently
- Highly flexible and able to accommodate changing office needs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and compliance standards
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills
