About the role
Coordinate surgery scheduling and determination of ancillary procedures. Provide all necessary information and guidance regarding the surgery to the patient. Produce reports that compile various surgery statistics for departmental use.
Responsibilities
- Schedules and coordinates surgical cases with corresponding ancillary tests and arrangements
- Recognize the differences between various types of procedures and patients' needs within the same procedure
- Recommend surgery times and dates to physicians to ensure adequate space and time for completion of the surgery
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the logistical requirements of each procedure and the individual needs of each physician
- Affirm that the scheduling of each surgical case is conducted and scheduled properly in the appropriate area based on knowledge of the facilities available in each room and within the guidelines set up by each area and within their established timeframe
- Prepare necessary patient reports for physicians and the department as a whole based on knowledge of the procedures performed
- Maintain knowledge of all necessary computer programs used in the scheduling process that may include Cycare, Clinipac, McCormick-Dodge OR Scheduler, etc.
- Review future schedules based on physicians' schedules to best utilize the available operating rooms; make recommendations to surgeons based on this information
- Process and review incoming and outgoing surgery-related documents and forms
- Provide guidance to patients regarding logistics of the surgery; assist patients with submission of insurance and preliminary financial arrangements and pre-certify surgeries with appropriate insurance companies; make necessary arrangements with patients for accommodations
- Act as a resource regarding all logistical aspects of the surgical process
- Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Three years office or clerical experience or equivalent experience

- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, staff, and departments
- Strong organizational ability
- Strong oral and written communication skills
