Support Services Dispatcher

About the Role

This position performs a variety of complex duties involved in the receipt of incoming phone calls, radio traffic, multiple alarm systems, and dispatching and documenting calls for security, environmental services, clinical engineering, maintenance, fire, resuscitation, hazardous materials spills, traumas, infant/child abduction, weather-related emergencies, and other emergency or life-threatening responses.

Under general supervision, the role involves operating emergency services systems and communication devices to receive, screen, and act on emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and internal staff requesting Security, Fire, Law Enforcement, and other services. Responsibilities include determining the nature and location of emergencies, prioritizing calls, dispatching as necessary, and transferring calls to appropriate departments. The position also monitors emergency system enunciators, security surveillance cameras, and various alarm systems, and may handle overflow telephone response after hours.

This role coordinates and prepares written documentation for communications, both verbal and electronic.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to code and alarm systems, including fire, resuscitation, gas, elevator, video recorder alarms, silent alarms, and other related systems.
• Monitor and respond to the integrated closed-circuit television system and access control system, requiring detection, computer manipulation, and input while coordinating responses by appropriate staff (e.g., security, code teams).
• Stay current on software updates, alarm point inputs, and system override procedures.
• Dispatch emergent and non-emergent radio traffic for Renown Health facilities and other special projects or locations.
• Maintain telephonic contact with fire, law enforcement, and emergency agencies.
• Manage after-hours incoming calls from the public regarding emergency situations.
• Receive, prioritize, and transmit a large volume of radio and telephone transmissions accurately, rapidly, and efficiently.
• Coordinate system-wide responses during emergencies or codes.
• Coordinate repair of all security-related life safety systems.

Critical systems and telephones must be monitored 24/7, requiring work on all shifts, including holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed. Employees may be called in and must maintain a contact mechanism. Attendance and punctuality are mandatory, and missed time cannot be made up.

Requirements

• Working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• One year of previous dispatching experience with emergency life safety systems and working knowledge of radio communication equipment is preferred.
• Basic computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
• Typing and computer proficiency for operation of dispatch center computers.
