SUPPORT SERVICES ASSISTANT (INTERPRETER)
About the role
The Support Services Assistant (Interpreter) facilitates communications accurately, effectively, and impartially using sign language for hearing impaired and severely speech impaired incarcerated persons. They also perform other duties related to assisting in the communication process. This position may require travel to other correctional institutions.

- May be required to travel to other correctional institutions as needed.
Requirements
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.
Qualifications
Will also consider Temporary Appointments (TA) - Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the classification, but do not currently have eligibility on an employment certification list by having taken and passed an examination, may apply as a TA. TAs are limited to a duration of 9 months within a 12 consecutive month period. In order for a TA to become permanent, individuals must take and pass the related examination, and thereby become eligible from a certification list, within 9 months of TA. Individuals who successfully obtain eligibility prior to the expiration of the TA will not be required to re-compete in a competitive process for permanent appointment to that position.
Skills
Knowledge of methods of and proficiency in facilitating communication between hearing impaired and hearing persons by sign language and spoken language.
Ability to relate well to individuals, representatives or other State agencies and communities; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
