Supervisory Transportation Assistant

Duties

• Helps Serve as Supervisory Transportation Assistant with responsibility for planning and directing the activities of employees engaged in performing a wide variety of transportation clerical and complex technical Transportation Assistant functions.
• Captures the movement of inbound and outbound shipments by scheduling and coordinating carrier delivery or pick-up of freight.
• Affirms the most economical shipment of freight and processes associated documents involved in the movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
• Updates staff on policies and changes affecting inbound and outbound shipment operations, training the necessary staff members as well as maintaining the transportation and traffic management files.
• Maintains knowledge of the Transportation Programs and is aware of and analyzes problem areas and situations that are complex or unusually difficult.
• Certifies official timecards for payroll certifications.
• Approves employee's yearly performance appraisals.
• Performs the duties as the Branch Chief in their absence.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment: Must be a U.S. citizen, tour of duty set schedule, security requirements non-critical sensitive, appointment subject to suitability or fitness determination, unfavorable adjudication background checks grounds for removal, fair labor standards act exempt, selective service requirement males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service, recruitment incentives not authorized, supervisory probation required, completion of supervisory certification program required.
• Qualifications: Specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the federal service, military, or private sector. For all other applicants, to qualify for the GS-09 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-08 grade level or equivalent in the military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) Positions Only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.
• Education: Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly or related to this position. • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
• Substitutes for experience may include: Analyzing and planning workload data, recommending priorities and distribution of resources including labor and equipment for assigned organizational areas, providing traffic management oversight on transportation and traffic management matters, planning and directing the work of the operation and supervising general schedule employees performing a variety of technical duties.
